Kettering, Leicester and Northampton NHS Trusts commit to EQMS

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) is one of Britain’s top teaching hospital trusts.
UHL is made up of the three NHS hospitals in Leicester; Glenfield Hospital, Leicester General Hospital and Leicester Royal Infirmary. The Trust provides services for almost one million people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and beyond.

Kettering General Hospital NHS Trust has approximately five hundred and twenty beds, an accident & emergency department, outpatients departments and a full range of diagnostic facilities.

Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust has more than 700 beds, including ITU, HDU and coronary care wards. There are 6 main operating theatres, plus additional theatres for gynaecology, ENT, dental, obstetrics, elective orthopaedic and ophthalmic surgery.

The three Trusts belong to the Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland Health Authority and, having witnessed Northampton's success using EQMS to support accreditation to the Clinical Pathology Accreditation UK Ltd's Standards for the Medical Laboratory, the Health Authority agreed to fund the purchase of EQMS for all three Trust's Pathology Laboratories in its control.

EQMS will allow the Pathology Laboratories at all three Trusts to control their Standard Operating Procedures, policies and other important documents with regular review, evidence of appropriate approvals and verification of distribution and receipt.  The software will also facilitate the more effective sharing of knowledge assets across the three Trusts.

"EQMS will help us to standardise our approach to Quality across the three Trusts.  It is fully web-based, easier to use, and fulfils all the requirements of the CPA standard"  said Mike Gayler, Quality Manager at UHL's Pathology Department.  "Furthermore, Qualsys provided us with a comprehensive implementation plan and will guide us through the transition from paper to electronic systems.  This will be invaluable to us as we roll out the system across all laboratories."
